  • Instrumental in setting up a new ultrafast photonics laboratory (including fsec, psec, and nsec lasers) for laser indcued breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), coherent Anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) studies, Ultrafast time-resolved techniques, Terahertz spectroscopic studies, SERS studies for detection of explosives etc.
  • Studies of short pulse interaction with materials including femtosecond ablation
  • Femtosecond direct writing for integrating optics and fluidics structures.

  • Involved in setting up a Nonlinear Optics and Photonics laboratory at IIT Guwahati. Fabrication and characterization of micro- and nano-photonic structures in different materials were carried out.

  • Instrumental in setting up a new characterization facility at Centre for Ion Beam Applications, Physics Department, to investigate the linear and nonlinear optical properties of photonic components fabricated using focused high-energy Proton Beam
  • Mode profiling, Refractive index profiling, Propagation loss measurements in passive waveguides of PMMA, SU8, Silicon, and Erbium-doped phosphate glass
  • Frequency conversion in waveguides fabricated in NLO crystals.

Research Assistant, University of St. Andrews, UK (August 2000 – June 2003)

  • Major contribution for the development of semiconductor nonlinear optics laboratory at University of St. Andrews
  • Practical experience and knowledge of building and characterizing Ti:sapphire laser and optical parametric oscillators (psec and fsec)
  • Extensive experience with nonlinear frequency conversion techniques like SHG, DFG, and SFG in semiconductor nonlinear waveguides and crystals using femtosecond and picosecond pulses
  • Instrumental in developing a novel setup for the loss measurements in semiconductor waveguides using the femtosecond scattering technique in the near-IR wavelengths. Sound knowledge of the cw Fabry-Perot technique for loss measurements in waveguides.
  • Knowledge of Birefringent Phase Matching, Quasi Phase Matching, and Modal Phase Matching in semiconductor nonlinear waveguides
  • Expertise with light coupling (pig-tail/fiber) in and out of semiconductor and polymer waveguides
  • Familiarity with intensity/interferometric autocorrelation of femtosecond pulses
  • Familiarity with near- and mid-IR optics, detectors

Research Student, University of Hyderabad, India (August 1994 – April 2000)

  • Evaluation of ps/fs excited state dynamics in C60, porphyrins and phthalocyanines using incoherent light from a broadband nsec dye laser using degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM)
  • 3rd order nonlinearity measurements using DFWM & Z-scan techniques with nsec/psec/fsec pulses
  • Led an effort to characterize various organic nonlinear materials for optical limiting and NLO applications
  • Involved with the EFISHG set up for characterization of second order NLO materials
